I love the craft, heart and artfulness of this record. Each track is a gem. The whole set fits together in a very satisfying and entertaining way. I find myself going back to it often. I’m grateful to own a copy. I treasure this collection.
Favorite track: WildCat Road (feat. Wendy MacIsaac).
City roads disappear up here
And there ain't no bright streetlights
The sky is black as a witch's eye
There’s bubbles in the mud, and a coyote cries
The road has ruts, it’ll suck you down
Don't you think you'd better turn around?
I said, don't you think you'd better turn around?
Now where did you say that you wanted to go?
'Cause one wrong turn, you just don't know
You might end up on the WildCat Road
A likely story nobody would believe
But the WildCat Road won't let you leave
Keep your head down, way down, brother
Place one foot in front of the other
Don't look left, don't look right
Fix right down the middle of the path in sight
You may not be swallowed, but you are being followed
Down the lane, all the way to Ghost Hollow
You're a fool if you walk this road alone
When you find yourself without a working phone
Did you really think you're gonna get back home?
When you feel your skin getting pierced to the bone
By the eyes on the side of the WildCat Road
A likely story nobody would believe
But the WildCat road won't let you leave
There's a bear in the backyard knows about you
Mangy mutt with the snarl does too
Nightmare ravens croaking from the trees
Shadows overhead have got you shakin' at the knees
Eyes wide, terrified, you hear yourself moan
Heart's in your throat, stomach sinkin' like a stone
'Cause sneakin' through the thicket to a secret beat
Comes the one thing you don't wanna meet
Slips along on silent feet
On the WildCat Road
Now where did you say that you wanted to go?
'Cause one wrong turn and you may not know
How to return from the WildCat Road
A likely story nobody would believe
But the WildCat road won't let you leave
City roads disappear up here
And there ain't no bright streetlights
You are an intimate suggestion
When I see you smile across a crowded room
Don't settle down in the back of my mind
You're too easy to imagine
You are a subtle indication
When I hear you whisper across a crowded room
Don't let your eyes drift into mine
You're too easy to imagine
I was always one to run when love would beckon
And so secretly, but for just one second
I would have a fantasy
You, you're the ultimate temptation
The rise and fall of Rome
Don't let me dream what can never be true
I know I'll always be the fool who knew
Could never be the one for you
I was always one to run when love would beckon
And so secretly, but for just one second
I would have a fantasy
You put me in a dangerous position
When you stroll into a crowded room
You are an intimate suggestion
How could my fantasy turn out to be so cruel
Don't settle down in the back of my mind
Don't let your eyes drift into mine
Don't think for one second I'll ever find
A way to leave this foolish fantasy behind
No more intimate suggestion
I need to say goodbye
Let’s hang out for awhile
Do it up in style
Drink a bottle of the best and relax
We’ve got nothin’ else to do but look up at the moon
Smoke a hookah of hashish and lay back
Oh, the times like these
Few and far between
It’s ok to let go once in a while
Moments will add up like a collection in a cup
It’s ok to let go
I see you smile
Depends upon the mood
Some say it’s bad, I say it’s good
We’ll drink a bottle to our health, don’t resist
We’ve got time on our hands
Nothin’ in our heads
Let’s say thanks for the chance to exist
Oh, the times like these
Few and far between
It’s ok to let go once in a while
Moments will add up like a collection in a cup
It’s ok to let go, I see you smile
You need your pleasure
You take your pain
You've got a reason
To get here again
You need your money
You take your medicine
You'll want to, honey
To get here again
If you want to be notorious
Gotta let yourself be glorious
Outrageous and contagiously insane
(You are everything you need)
You want some heaven
You make a stand
You've got to, honey
To see the Promised Land
You want your freedom
Let go your pride
Greet your salvation
With arms open wide
If you want to be notorious
Gotta let yourself be glorious
Outrageous and contagiously insane
(You are everything you need)
I'm trying to tell you starting today
Let go your inhibitions
You've got something to say
I'm trying to tell you every day
If you're looking for redemption
You're headed our way
I’m trying to tell you again and again
It's pumping like a piston
From your soul right through your veins
I’m trying to tell you all along
You've got everything you need
For the promise of song
You need your pleasure
(You are everything you need)
You take your pain
(If you want to be notorious)
You need your money
(You are everything you need)
You take your medicine
(Gotta let yourself be glorious)
You want some heaven
(You are everything you need)
You make a stand
(If you want to be notorious)
You want your freedom
(You are everything you need)
Let go your pride
(Gotta let yourself be glorious)
If you want to be notorious
(You are everything you need)
Gotta let yourself be glorious
(You are everything you need)
Oh my home it spills the light of voices
Ringing out with song
Filled with riches shining bright
Love that's woven strong
I cannot leave for fame nor fortune
Will not settle someplace new
You say I'm a Nova Scotian and my nose is blue
You've come to teach us how to live
Though we've been here so many years
For every city you bring closer
A Nova Scotian disappears
You'll find us in the little houses
Old and worn by fog and sea
Lonely farms, children leaving
Forests but a memory
I will stay a Nova Scotian
Though in time I may be lost
Maybe a poet will write our story
The price of change not worth the cost
Though my home it now is quiet
It will not be for long
One day you'll come to hear the whispers
Of the Nova Scotia Song
And tell your child there used to be
A better way to live
Show the pictures of our story
A precious gift
I will stay a Nova Scotian
And even though my nose is blue
I am a proud Bluenoser
Loyal through and through
I will stay a Nova Scotian
I will always be a Nova Scotian
I am a Nova Scotian
My heart forever true
Oh my home it spills the light of voices
Ringing out with song
Filled with riches shining bright
And love that's woven strong
Why don’t you put on your Gucci suit
And jump in a lake
Slip on your alligator shoes
And go take a hike
Make a political decision (whatever)
But make it real soon
I want you outta my room
You’re a natural disaster
I’m not your genie, you’re not my master
Take off your head, it’s oversize
Take off your nose, it’s up way too high
Move that mouth before you put your foot in it
Lose the false face, don’t wanna see you with it
Outta my room (and don’t come back)
Get out!
Why don’t you rev up your fancy car
And drive real fast
Get out your big fat wallet
And count up your cash
Make sure you leave a big impression (whatever)
But make it real soon
‘Cause I want you outta my room...
Go put on a smile, forget what I said
Take your attitude with you when you leave my bed
Some girls like guys with fast cars and money
I’m just not one of them and that’s all honey
You’re a bad apparatus
I don’t wanna see you again
You sure leave a big impression
You’re hard on the head
Yeah, I’m sure I’ll miss ya (whatever)
Just make it real soon
I want you outta my room...
Go put on a smile, forget what I said
Take your attitude with you when you leave my bed
Some girls like guys with fast cars and money
I’m not one of them and that’s all honey
Get outta my room (and outta my sight)
Shut the door when you leave (quit messing with me)
Get outta my room (and don’t come back)
Get out!
That’s all, honey!
